Car Thief, Baby Kidnapper Brandi Rhodes Captured in East Nashville

Brandi Michelle Rhodes, 33, was taken into custody for several crimes including allegedly stealing a vehicle with a child in it last month. (Girlfriend needs a new dermatologist!)

A woman was arrested in Nashville Wednesday in connection with multiple thefts across the Metropolitan area over the past month.

After being arrested in connection to a string of crimes in East Nashville this week, the same woman has been officially charged in an Amber Alert case.

Metro Police said they have charged Brandi Rhodes with especially aggravated kidnapping and felony auto theft related to the October 6th incident.

It’s a story News 2 has covered from the start. You may recall a one-year-old boy was left inside an unlocked, running car in the Inglewood Kroger parking lot.

Police said Rhodes is seen on video getting into the car and taking off. The Amber Alert was issued after his parents returned to find their child and car missing.

The car was found a few hours later, and the boy was safe asleep inside.

On Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the Speedway Gas Station on Gallatin Pike for reports of a truck with a trailer that had been stolen. That truck was later recovered in the 1600 block of Chase Street with two flat tires, just a few blocks from the gas station.

Brandi Rhodes Now Charged with Aggravated Kidnapping for Driving Off with 1-Year-Old From Grocery Store (MNPD Official News Release)

The woman identified as stealing a car with a one-year-old child inside from the Inglewood Kroger parking lot on October 6th is today being charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and felony auto theft.

Brandi Rhodes, 33, was arrested earlier this week on charges of aggravated burglary, several counts of felony theft, and joyriding.

An Amber Alert for the one-year-old was issued after his parents came out of the grocery store and saw that their car, which they had left unlocked and running with their son inside, was gone. The car was recovered with the child still inside a few hours later.

Video surveillance from Kroger helped lead to the identification of Rhodes as the suspect the night of the car theft/child abduction.

The parents were charged by citation with misdemeanor child endangerment.

News 2 spoke to a man Wednesday who came outside his home to see a woman, later identified as Rhodes, with the work truck.

“I just heard a car like barrel down this driveway,” Jacob Logan told News 2. “She had some other guys show up, and they were trying to get the tractor-trailer backed out through this driveway, so I came out and asked if they were with a company or anything. They sort of got jittery, and the guys drove away, and she tried to back out really quick and tore up the yard a lot.”

Brandi Rhodes was last seen on video grabbing two guitars from the truck before taking off on foot back through the neighborhood. Logan said she left the stolen truck with another guitar, a keyboard and a purse among the items still inside. 

Neighbor Kenny Smith watched as Rhodes left the scene with stolen goods.

“A lady finally got out of the truck and took out two guitars and went walking up the street and this happened in broad daylight,” Smith said.

Those items were believed to be stolen from a home in the 2300 block of McGavock Pike. Police also responded to a burglary there Wednesday afternoon, involving a white truck with a trailer, matching the description of the vehicle taken from the gas station. 

When police arrived, Brandi Rhodes was found in the front passenger seat of the vehicle and identified herself with a different name and a birthdate to match that name.

It was not until booking into the Davidson County Sheriff's office that officers found her real identity to be Brandi Rhodes, confirmed by fingerprints.

Rhodes had two outstanding warrants from September of 2020 for aggravated criminal trespassing and vandalism of $1,000 or less.

Through an investigation, Rhodes was identified as the woman in the crimes. She, along with the two men who picked her up from the East Nashville neighborhood, were arrested at a pawn shop Wednesday.

The men were identified as Anthony Scales Jr. and Brandon Norris. Police said the trio was found in a stolen Ford Fusion.

Investigators said they were pawning one of the stolen guitars taken from the home on McGavock Pike.

“She needed to be caught and anyone working along with her needed to be caught and if you come back over here in the neighborhood we will be looking out,” Smith said.

Again, this not the only crime Brandi Rhodes is connected to, according to police. Rhodes was also wanted in connection to an AMBER Alert issued in East Nashville last month.

Brandi Rhodes is accused of taking a vehicle that was left running and unlocked in the parking lot of the Inglewood Kroger on Gallatin Pike on Oct. 6.

One-year-old Nolan Ishimwe was left alone in the vehicle while his parents were inside the store for about an hour. Rhodes approached the Focus around 6:15 p.m. and drove away with Nolan inside the sedan.

That same night Nolan was found by a good Samaritan in the parked vehicle in the 900 block of Home Road, which is around the corner from Kroger. Officers found Nolan asleep in the back seat of the vehicle.

Brandi Michelle Rhodes faces burglary, theft, and several other misdemeanor charges.
