NASHVILLE POLICE PUMMEL BLACK MAN ON GROUND DURING DRUG ARREST

25-year-old Emanuel Gage was charged with driving on suspended, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamines and cocaine, drug paraphernalia, felony drug offense, possession of a firearm during a felony, and unlawful possession of a weapon. On October 18th, Metro Nashville Police officers observed Emanuel Gage standing next to a white Honda Accord on East Thompson Lane just before Wimpole Drive. Officers also observed a tan Sedan parked in front of the Honda that took off down Thompson Lane headed west when police activated their blue lights.

When officers spoke with Gage, he stated he was the driver of the Honda. Later he changed his story, stating he was not the driver and was simply walking by. Officers noticed Gage had his hands inside of his jacket pocket with a large imprint that appeared to be a gun. Officers demanded Gage remove his hand from his pocket, but he refused. Officers notes “he had a bladed stance and was giving a deep stare as if ready to fight.” When they attempted to pat Gage down, he pulled away and a handgun fell out of his pocket. Gage continuously fought being taken into custody and attempted to flee the scene while the weapon remained unsecured. (SHORT VIDEO)

Video evidence of the incident reveals officers beating Gage into submission as he continues to struggle and resist. Once Gage was finally detained, officers recovered several baggies. Two bags field-tested positive for meth, weighing in at a total of 6.4 grams. Another baggy weighing in at 2.2 grams field-tested positive for cocaine. A fourth bag contained about 2 grams of an unknown orange powder. The white Honda Accord was discovered to be registered to Gage, which gave officers probable cause to search. Officers found 15 grams of a crystal substance also believed to be meth and paraphernalia believed to be used to smoke narcotics inside of his vehicle. The search of his person and car yielded an additional $675 and three cell phones.
